Getting Started
What is Goalie?
Goalie is a personal productivity app that helps you prioritise and do the things you want to do in your life, whilst giving you the ability to easily see at both a macro and micro level where you are at with your goals.
Goalie aims to be simple to use and conducive to mindful productivity. Helping you spend more time doing the things that are actually important to you.
How to Use Goalie
Whilst this article offers some guidance on how to structure your goals, do not take it as a strict set of rules you have to follow. Feel free to structure your goals however you like, experiment with different layouts and use what works best for you.
Projects
Projects are the largest building block within Goalie. A project consists of many timelines. You can think of them as: an area of your life (e.g. “Work”, “Personal”), an actual project you’re working on (e.g. “Renovate House”) or anything you can think of that would benefit from multiple timelines.
Timelines
A timeline consists of many goals arranged in sequence. The order matters because this is what Goalie will use to determine what goal you should be working towards next. You can think of them as a larger form of a goal, some examples for a project called “Personal” could be “Fitness”, “Books to Read” and “Trips”. And for a project like “Renovate House” you could break it down by each room you’re working on e.g. “Bathroom”, “Kitchen” and “Living Room”.
Generally speaking you don’t want to have too many timelines as it represents how your attention is split. A key aspiration of Goalie is to help you direct your focus and make real progress on things that matter to you.
Goals
A goal is something you want to achieve. It can be as big or as small as you want. Goals can have unlimited nested child goals. For example, in a timeline called “Music” in my “Personal” project I could have a goal called “Record Album” and then have subgoals for individual tracks on the album and then within those track subgoals you could have the steps for recording, mixing and mastering each song.
Notes
Goalie also supports rich text notes. You can link notes to your Projects, Timelines and Goals.
